Mellencamp, Crow to tour New Zealand

Grammy  award winners John Mellencamp and Sheryl Crow are coming to New Zealand.

The singer-songwriters will perform at Auckland's Vector Arena on December 3, Alana Estate Winery in Martinborough on December 6, and at Mudhouse Winery in Canterbury on December 7.

It's the first time in 15 years that American rocker Mellencamp, who has sold more than 40 million albums and earned 15 Grammy nominations, has gone on tour.

He was booked to perform with Elvis Costello at this year's Mission Estate Winery concert but cancelled because it clashed with his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Mellancamp and Crow will be joined in the concerts by 21-year-old New Zealander Gin Wigmore, who has just released her debut CD after becoming the first Kiwi to sign with Island Records Australia.

Tickets to the concerts go on sale on July 7.

Former Top AOL Officers Charged With Fraud

The SEC announced Monday that it has filed fraud charges against eight former AOL executives for allegedly inflating the company's advertising revenue by more than $1 billion prior to the 2000 merger with Time Warner. Among those named in the complaint is John Michael Kelly, the company's chief financial officer, who went on to hold the same position at the merged AOL Time Warner (the company dropped AOL from its name in 2003). The SEC said that at the time the merger was being considered, AOL, like the rest of the dot-com business, was facing a financial crisis. To counteract the downturn, the SEC said, AOL engaged in what it called "round-trip" transactions, in which it took the money it received from advertisers and essentially gave it back to them to buy additional advertising that they "did not need or want."
